Frequently Asked Questions

Do you sell turf rolls, and can I buy just one?

Yes. We supply turf rolls directly from our own fields in Hampshire, whether you need a single roll for a small repair or enough for a full garden. As one of the few turf suppliers who grow the grass we sell, you’re buying straight from the source rather than through a middleman.

Anyone can buy from us, we sell turf and landscaping materials to homeowners, gardeners and landscapers alike, with no minimum order. Trade accounts are available for regular tradespeople, but they’re not a requirement.

We’re based in Hampshire and deliver turf and landscaping materials across Southampton and Hampshire. We’re also able to deliver UK-wide if needed; just get in touch with your location, and we’ll confirm delivery availability.
We carefully grow and maintain our turf to develop a well-established root structure. It’s robust enough that we don’t need to net it with plastic, and the seed mix includes 20% dwarf rye for extra durability, making it ideal for garden turf that gets heavy daily use from kids and pets. We actually supply a number of garden centres too, so you’re getting the same high-quality turf directly from the source.

Yes. We’re specialist turf layers, not generic landscapers, and our team has earned a Gold Award at the Chelsea Flower Show and a Gold Award in UK Skills for Landscaping. Because we grow the turf ourselves, our local turf laying service means it can be cut fresh and laid in your garden soon after leaving the field.

It typically runs in three stages. First, we strip out the old lawn, roots and debris, then rotavate the ground and rake it until it is level. Next, we spread, compact, and prepare fresh topsoil with fertiliser. Finally, we lay the new turf and leave you with aftercare instructions and watering guidance.
Directly from us. Our topsoil is screened and nutrient-rich, ideal as a base for new turf, for filling raised beds, or for levelling an uneven lawn, and it’s available alongside our turf and wider landscaping supplies.

Yes, this is one of the most popular combinations we receive requests for. If you’re starting a lawn from the ground up, let us know the size of your area, and we will recommend the right quantities of both.

Yes. In addition to back gardens, we frequently undertake larger turfing and seeding projects for commercial and council sites, utilising our own specialised equipment such as turf cutters, rotavators, power rakes, tractors, and diggers.

Yes. Solent Turf Supplies Ltd has been growing and supplying turf from our Hampshire fields since 1972, and we’re still a family-run business today. That long history means our team has extensive knowledge of the local soil, climate and growing conditions.

For gardens with heavy daily use, we recommend our standard hard-wearing turf, which includes 20% dwarf rye in the seed mix. It’s the same durable variety used on everything from golf fairways to busy family lawns, so it holds up well to regular play.

Yes, our team regularly helps customers with this. Tell us how the space will be used, whether that’s a low-maintenance lawn, a family garden, or something more ornamental, and we’ll recommend suitable turf.
Pricing depends on the area size, the condition of the existing ground, and how much preparation is needed before laying. Because every garden is different, the best way to get an accurate figure is to send us a few details about your project.
Please contact us to confirm whether collection from our Hampshire yard is available and to arrange a suitable time.
Our grass laying service handles the entire process, not just installing the rolls. This includes removing the old lawn, leveling and preparing the ground, adding fresh topsoil as needed, and laying the new turf, so you’re not responsible for the groundwork.
